The fastest way to get help. Include your macOS version, a description of what happened, and a screenshot if relevant.
delianvault@hermeneialabs.co.ukYes — using the 24-word recovery key generated when you first set up the vault. If you didn't save it, the encryption is mathematically impossible to reverse. This is by design — nobody, including us, can access your vault without your credentials.
Yes. On your old Mac, open the app and choose Vault → Export Vault Backup…. Save the encrypted .dvbak file. On the new Mac, install Delian Vault and choose Vault → Restore from Backup…. Enter your backup password and everything — documents, users, audit log — is restored.
No. Delian Vault is fully offline. It has no network access whatsoever. You can use it on a plane, in a basement, in a rural area with no signal — anywhere.
On your Mac, in the app's sandboxed Application Support folder. Every document is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before it touches disk. Nothing is ever transmitted off your device.
If you never saw the recovery key sheet, you may have dismissed it during setup. Check: Settings → Recovery & Biometrics → Generate New…. This generates a fresh 24-word phrase you can save. However, it won't help you regain a forgotten password — for that, the key must have been saved before you forgot.
Currently, Delian Vault manages a single vault per macOS user account. To use a second vault, log out of the first and create a new one — or use a separate macOS user account. Multi-vault support is on our roadmap.
